Description
About Giga
Giga is building gigawatts of AI data centers to hasten a future of intelligence and abundance. We build data centers fast and at scale by combining the capabilities of an equipment supplier, engineering firm, general contractor, and real estate developer under one roof. Our team moves quickly and thinks practically. If you're ready to make an impact in an industry that matters, we're looking for people like you.
Why join Giga
- The Pace: We're building at a speed most companies talk about but never actually operate at. If you've been bored somewhere else, you won't be here.
- The Impact: Every person at Giga touches the work that matters. No layers, no waiting for approval chains. You'll see your fingerprints on what we ship.
- The Team: A team of operators defining the future of AI infrastructure. We recruit A-players from the most innovative companies in the world, and they choose Giga because the work here means more.
- The Moment: AI doesn't run without power, and that's us. Giga is the picks and shovels behind the AI revolution. This industry is about to explode, and you'll be in the room where it's already happening.
What you’ll do
We are seeking a Civil Engineer to contribute to the full lifecycle of our site development projects, from initial feasibility through construction execution. You will support site assessments, design development, and compliance activities under mentorship from senior engineers. The ideal candidate has hands-on CAD skills and is comfortable working both at the desk and on construction sites.
Where you’ll work
We are an in-office culture — velocity matters when you're building physical infrastructure, and the best decisions happen in the room. This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.
That said, we will make exceptions for truly exceptional talent if you live outside one of our hubs. If you're the right person for this role, we'll have a conversation about what works.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing site layouts, including grading plans, drainage systems, utility routing, and foundation design under senior engineer guidance.
- Conduct site assessments, gather geotechnical data, and contribute to environmental impact studies to support project viability determinations.
- Research and apply local zoning laws and building codes; support the permitting process with municipal and state agencies.
- Contribute to project schedules and budgets; assist with vendor coordination under senior oversight.
- Support structural calculations for specialized equipment housing (e.g., pads for cooling units, heavy electrical infrastructure).
- Perform site inspections to verify construction alignment with engineering specifications and safety standards; document findings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 2–4 years of experience in land development, industrial construction, or data center infrastructure.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, or similar BIM software.
- Working knowledge of hydrology, soil mechanics, and reinforced concrete design.
- PE license preferred but not required.
Bonus points
- Familiarity with critical infrastructure requirements (Power, Cooling, and Fiber connectivity).
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with internal teams and stakeholders.
Who We Hire:
We hire people who thrive in chaos and get sharper under pressure. You don't wait to be told what to do, you spot the gap and fill it. When there's work to be done, you do it. You make decisions with the information you have, move fast, and adjust along the way. We're not looking for perfect; we're looking for people who get things done.

How We Work
We value people who take ownership, raise risks early, communicate directly, and follow through. Incomplete information is part of the job. Make the best decision you can, document it, and adjust as the facts change. Move quickly on reversible decisions and take more care when security, safety, financial, employee, or customer risk is involved.

About this role
Giga Energy is building data center infrastructure at an unusual pace, and this civil engineering role sits at the center of that operation. You'd support the full project lifecycle—from site feasibility and design through construction—working on the grading, drainage, utilities, and foundation systems that make gigawatt-scale facilities possible. The work spans desk-based CAD modeling (Civil 3D, Revit) and regular site inspections, with mentorship from senior engineers as you develop your technical judgment on everything from soil mechanics to local permitting.
The role demands 2–4 years in land development, industrial construction, or data center work, plus solid CAD skills and working knowledge of hydrology and reinforced concrete. A PE license is preferred but not required. You'll need to be comfortable in an environment where decisions happen fast with incomplete information, where you spot gaps and fill them without waiting for direction, and where you're expected to raise risks early and adjust as facts change. The company explicitly hires people who thrive under pressure and get sharper in chaos.
This is a contract position based ideally in Houston, San Francisco, or Long Beach with full-time onsite expectations except for bi-weekly work-from-home Fridays—though they'll consider exceptions for exceptional candidates elsewhere. You'd have standard startup benefits including equity, health coverage, unlimited PTO, and periodic in-person team collaboration.
