Job Title: Paediatric Special School Speech and Language Therapist – West Kent (Tonbridge)

Banding: Band 6/7
Location: West Kent, Tonbridge
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £39,483 – £47,549
Working Hours: Part-time

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join an independent specialist day school in West Kent. This high-quality educational setting supports a diverse group of pupils with complex educational needs, communication difficulties, and challenging behaviours.

The school provides a nurturing environment tailored to children with a wide range of SEN needs, offering structured support, individualised learning, and a strong multidisciplinary approach. As a Band 6 or 7 therapist, you will play a central role in delivering assessment, intervention, and ongoing support to enhance pupils’ communication skills and overall learning experiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist passionate about paediatric SEN, collaboration, and creating meaningful impact within a caring specialist school environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
• Assess, diagnose, and deliver therapeutic interventions for pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and associated complex needs.
• Develop child-centred therapy plans and work collaboratively with teaching staff, support teams, and other clinicians.
• Provide advice, strategies, and hands-on support to staff to promote communication-friendly environments.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary reviews, Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs), and ongoing progress monitoring.
• Maintain accurate, detailed clinical records in accordance with HCPC and RCSLT standards.
• Support whole-school communication initiatives and contribute to service development within the therapy team.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:
• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• HCPC registration and eligibility for RCSLT membership.
• Experience working with children with complex needs, communication difficulties, and/or challenging behaviours.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• A reflective, child-centred approach, with enthusiasm for working in specialist school environments.

About this role

Pulse Healthcare is recruiting a Speech and Language Therapist for an independent specialist day school in West Kent that serves children with complex educational needs, communication difficulties, and challenging behaviours. Working part-time at Band 6/7, you would assess and deliver therapeutic interventions tailored to individual pupils, develop communication strategies for staff to embed across the school environment, and contribute to multidisciplinary reviews and EHCPs. The role requires you to maintain clinical standards while working closely with teaching teams and other clinicians in a structured, nurturing setting.

You'll need HCPC registration, a recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy, and demonstrated experience working with children who have complex needs and communication difficulties. The position suits therapists with a reflective, child-centred approach who thrive in collaborative specialist school environments and want to influence whole-school communication practice, not just deliver individual therapy. The salary ranges from £39,483 to £47,549 depending on banding, and the role is available to start as soon as possible.
