About this role
ASM's Senior Field Service Engineer role in Boise centers on hands-on support of complex semiconductor manufacturing equipment at customer sites. You'll handle installation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs across electrical, mechanical, and software systems—working directly with customers to keep their production environments running smoothly. The position requires travel 25–75% domestically and internationally, so you'll be embedded in customer operations rather than based solely in an office.
The role demands at least five years of field service experience with sophisticated capital equipment, ideally in semiconductor manufacturing. You'll need solid technical fundamentals: the ability to read schematics, use diagnostic tools like oscilloscopes and DVMs, and troubleshoot microprocessor-controlled systems independently. An associate degree in electronics or electro-mechanical technology (or equivalent military training) is the baseline, along with strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
If you have semiconductor fab experience—particularly with vacuum systems, gas controls, RF plasma, or robotics—you'll stand out. This role suits someone who thrives solving complex problems in high-stakes production environments and builds credibility through reliable, professional service delivery.
