Description

Facilities & Grounds Assistant – Part Time

Northside Animal Hospital | Hooksett, NH
Part-Time | Approximately 25 hours/week | $15–$18/hour

Northside Animal Hospital is looking for a dependable, hardworking Facilities & Grounds Assistant to join our team.

We like to be very transparent about what this position involves so candidates have a clear understanding of the day-to-day work: this is primarily a cleaning, custodial, maintenance, and groundskeeping position within a veterinary hospital.

The work isn't always glamorous, but it is incredibly important.

By keeping our hospital clean, organized, sanitary, and well maintained, you create the environment our veterinary team needs to safely provide excellent medical care to our patients. While you'll certainly work around animals and interact with them from time to time, this is not primarily an animal-care position.

If you're someone who takes pride in a job well done, notices the little things, enjoys working with your hands, and doesn't mind getting dirty, you may be exactly who we're looking for.

What You'll Do

This is a hands-on role with responsibilities that vary from day to day and may include:

  • Cleaning and disinfecting cages, kennels, treatment areas, and hospital spaces

  • Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and maintaining floors

  • Laundry and dishes

  • Emptying trash and maintaining waste areas

  • Cleaning the mop sink and utility areas

  • Cleaning baseboards, walls, doors, light fixtures, and other areas throughout the hospital

  • Removing cobwebs, dust, hair, dirt, and buildup

  • Cleaning up after patients—including urine, feces, vomit, fur, and other messes that come with working in a veterinary hospital

  • Restocking cleaning and hospital supplies

  • Keeping storage and work areas clean and organized

  • Performing basic handiwork and minor repairs

  • Assisting with small maintenance projects

  • Identifying facility or maintenance concerns that need attention

  • Keeping entrances, stairs, walkways, the yard, and other outdoor areas clean and safe

  • Assisting with seasonal groundskeeping and general property upkeep in between visits from the landscaping crew

  • Pitching in with other cleaning, maintenance, or facility needs as they arise

Some tasks will be routine, while others may require you to look around, recognize what needs attention, and take initiative.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable and punctual — our team needs to be able to count on you

  • Comfortable working independently

  • Detail-oriented and able to recognize when something needs attention

  • Willing to tackle both routine tasks and less-than-glamorous jobs

  • Comfortable with basic tools, handiwork, and minor maintenance tasks

  • Comfortable working around dogs, cats, and other small animals

  • Able to work in an environment where animal hair, odors, bodily fluids, and messes are part of the job

  • Positive, flexible, and willing to help where needed

  • Someone who takes genuine pride in keeping a space clean, safe, organized, and well cared for

Veterinary experience is not required. Reliability, initiative, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic are much more important to us for this position.

Schedule

This position averages approximately 25 hours per week:

Monday: 1:00 PM – Close
Tuesday: 2:00 PM – Close
Wednesday: 1:00 PM – Close
Thursday: 1:00 PM – Close
Friday: 1:00 PM – Close

Our hospital is open until 5:00 PM Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and until 6:00 PM on Tuesdays.

Because this is a closing position, "close" means staying until the day's cleaning and closing responsibilities are complete. The exact end time may vary slightly depending on the hospital's workload that day.
