The Opportunity

Sterlington not only documents deals, we cut deals for clients. As part of that, we play something close to a financial / banker role in analyzing deal structures and executive compensation arrangements. We are looking for someone who can help us model and understand transactions and executive compensation arrangements from a numerical perspective. Our philosophy is that we need people trained to think logically and systematically, and equipped to operate with modern analysis tools (high expertise in AI modeling and Excel).

This role sits at the intersection of math, finance, law, and business, and is designed for someone who is intellectually rigorous and genuinely enjoys untangling complexity. You will work directly with the head of the corporate / M&A practice, and senior partners in those practices.

This is a rare opportunity for a mathematically and financially disciplined thinker who combines first-principles reasoning with AI fluency, applying both to high-stakes, real-world situations alongside individuals operating at the highest levels of decision-making.

What You’ll Do

  • Integrate AI-assisted workflows into your day-to-day work to enhance speed, depth, and accuracy of analysis
  • Analyze and model complex business, executive compensation, structure and financial arrangements to extract underlying economic logic and value drivers
  • Map ownership, incentive, and value-distribution structures across multiple scenarios
  • Stress-test assumptions and identify points of economic sensitivity and hidden risk
  • Build and refine analytical models and frameworks used on live client matters
  • Contribute to the evolution of AI-enabled analytical practices within the firm

What Success Looks Like

  • Your analysis directly informs structuring decisions, negotiations, and risk assessment
  • You demonstrate strong judgment in separating signal from noise in dense materials
  • You effectively integrate AI into your workflow, using it to enhance — not replace — your reasoning

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong foundation in mathematics (e.g., statistics, optimization, applied modeling) and proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, R, or similar) for building and testing analytical models
  • PhD or Master's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Finance, or a closely related quantitative field
  • Expertise in using AI tools in a professional context to model and analyze data
  • Comfortable operating independently in a remote, high-performance environment
  • Strong judgment
  • Prior experience in law is not required

At Sterlington, we believe that world-class talent has no boundaries. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where unique perspectives are valued and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

About this role

Sterlington is seeking a quantitative analyst to work at the intersection of mathematics, finance, and law—analyzing deal structures and executive compensation arrangements that shape high-stakes transactions for founders, executives, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. You'll report directly to the head of the Corporate/M&A practice and work alongside senior partners, building financial models and stress-testing assumptions that directly inform structuring decisions and negotiations. The role is designed for someone who thinks rigorously about complexity and uses modern tools—particularly AI and Excel—to extract economic logic from dense materials.

Your day-to-day work will involve integrating AI-assisted workflows into analysis, mapping ownership and incentive structures across multiple scenarios, and developing analytical frameworks that the firm applies to live client matters. This is independent contract work, fully remote on Eastern Standard Time, and requires you to operate with strong judgment and minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD or Master's in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field, with solid programming skills (Python, R, or equivalent) and demonstrated professional experience using AI tools for modeling and analysis. Prior legal experience is not required. If you're intellectually rigorous, genuinely enjoy untangling complexity, and can combine first-principles reasoning with AI fluency, this is a rare opportunity to apply quantitative thinking to real-world, high-level decision-making.
