About this role

Working as a veterinary assistant at Burlington Emergency & Veterinary Specialists means joining Vermont's only 24/7 specialty emergency hospital. You'll support the clinical team across a high-acuity environment that includes a full ER, ICU, and multiple specialist departments. The role blends direct patient care with essential facility operations—you'll restrain animals for procedures, assist with blood work and diagnostics, walk patients, and handle the full range of cleaning and sterilization tasks that keep a busy emergency hospital running.

This position requires at least one year of prior veterinary or animal handling experience and a high school diploma. You'll need to be comfortable working in an intense, fast-paced setting where animals arrive with urgent or critical needs, and where your ability to stay calm, work as part of a team, and maintain a positive attitude directly affects patient outcomes and staff morale. The role is in-office only at the Williston location.

Rarebreed Veterinary Partners backs this position with substantial benefits: competitive pay, full medical/dental/vision coverage, a 401k with strong company matching, generous paid time off, and continuing education funding. They also offer pet care discounts, wellness programming, financial literacy classes, and other supports aimed at making the role sustainable long-term.
