This role requires strong knowledge of industry codes and standards and the ability to work in a fast-paced and highly technical environment.
- Design plumbing and fire fighting systems, including water supply, drainage, fire suppression (e.g., FM-200, Inergen), fire alarms, and sprinklers for data center facilities.
- Develop detailed drawings and layouts using CAD/BIM software, ensuring system functionality, efficiency, and compliance with safety standards.
- Ensure designs comply with local, national, and international building codes and safety standards, including NFPA, IPC, and data center-specific standards (e.g., Uptime Institute’s Tier Classification).
- Perform hydraulic calculations, water flow analysis, and sizing of pumps, pipes, fire suppression systems, and related components to ensure proper operation within data center environments.
- Collaborate with the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) team and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of plumbing and fire protection systems into the overall data center design
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in plumbing, fire protection, or MEP design are a plus (e.g., NFPA, ASPE).
- 8+ years experience in designing plumbing and fire protection systems, with at least 2-3 years of experience in data center projects.
- Experience with BIM and advanced design tools for MEP systems.
- Strong expertise in the design of plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale facilities, especially data centers
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and other relevant tools for system design and modeling.
- Strong knowledge of fire suppression systems (FM-200, Inergen, CO2, water mist), fire alarms, sprinklers, and other life safety systems.
- Expertise in hydraulic calculations and system sizing (e.g., pumps, fire risers, water treatment systems).
- Relevant certifications in fire protection, plumbing, and MEP design (e.g., NFPA, ASPE, NICET).
About this role
DataVolt is seeking an experienced design engineer to lead the plumbing and fire protection systems for its data center operations across multiple global locations. You would own the full design lifecycle—from conceptual layouts through detailed CAD and BIM models—for complex water supply, drainage, and fire suppression systems that must operate flawlessly in mission-critical environments. The role demands deep technical knowledge of industry standards (NFPA, IPC, Uptime Institute Tier Classification) and hands-on expertise in fire suppression technologies like FM-200 and Inergen, combined with the ability to perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing that keep data centers operational and safe.
This position requires at least eight years of plumbing and fire protection design experience, with a minimum of two to three years specifically on data center projects. You should be fluent in AutoCAD and Revit, comfortable performing complex hydraulic analysis, and capable of collaborating across MEP disciplines to integrate your systems into larger facility designs. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required; relevant certifications (NFPA, ASPE, NICET) are valued. The role is based in Mumbai and requires in-office presence, making it well-suited for someone with established expertise in large-scale, highly regulated facility design who is ready to apply that knowledge to the demanding standards of data center infrastructure.
