About this role

SpaceX's Security Officer 3 role in Austin is a leadership-track position suited for seasoned security professionals ready to step beyond standard guard duties. You'll manage both operational security—patrolling facilities, staffing fixed posts, and responding to emergencies—and strategic responsibilities like training other officers, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating transportation security for flight hardware. The role demands someone comfortable working independently yet capable of directing others during critical incidents, with a genuine interest in the mission of advancing spaceflight.

The position requires at least five years in military, law enforcement, overseas contracting, or corporate security, plus a year of executive protection or emergency response experience. Beyond these fundamentals, SpaceX values candidates with military deployment background, medical certifications (EMT or combat medic training), small unit leadership experience, and the ability to obtain an FAA Part 107 drone license and state security officer commission. You'll need to pass enhanced background screening, maintain fitness standards, and be available for rotating shifts (day or night), occasional travel, and work in harsh outdoor conditions.

This is an in-office role requiring U.S. citizenship or equivalent immigration status due to ITAR export regulations. If you have the security foundation and are drawn to working at the intersection of national security and space exploration, this offers genuine advancement opportunity within a mission-driven organization.
