About this role

Pinterest's Notifications team is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to own the analytical strategy behind how the platform delivers messages to users. You'll develop measurement frameworks that optimize the full user journey, translate ambiguous business questions into rigorous analyses, and partner closely with product, engineering, and machine learning leadership to shape notification strategy and the systems that power it. The role combines deep technical work—improving ML models through new features and signals—with strategic influence, including mentoring other data scientists and communicating findings to leadership.

This position requires 8+ years of experience applying scientific methods to large-scale data problems, with strong foundations in statistics, machine learning, and experimentation. You'll need fluency in Python or R, SQL/Hive proficiency, and the ability to design and iterate on products through A/B testing. Beyond technical skills, the role demands business acumen and exceptional communication—the ability to shape vague questions into well-defined success metrics and tell compelling data stories across multiple teams.

The remote position is based in San Francisco with in-office collaboration required 1–2 times per quarter, making it available to candidates anywhere in the US. The salary range is $164,695–$339,078, with equity eligibility. This is a role for someone with a track record of leading technical projects and substantially influencing others' work, ideally with a degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
