About this role

Atwell is seeking a senior-level Field Technician to lead substation testing and commissioning work across the energy sector. You'll manage field teams of varying experience levels while performing hands-on equipment diagnostics, relay testing, control system programming, and SCADA installation. The role balances technical execution—wiring protective relays, configuring communications systems, troubleshooting in the field—with mentorship of junior staff and coordination between engineers, contractors, vendors, and clients on active projects.

This position requires at least three years of substation testing experience and current NETA or NICET certification. Beyond technical competency, you'll need strong judgment to work independently, organize complex projects, and communicate effectively across organizational levels. Experience with AutoCAD, power system software like EasyPower or ETAP, and familiarity with SEL equipment or IEC61850 protocols are valued additions. You'll split time between field work and office-based design support, with flexibility to adapt to a growing team and occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines.

Atwell offers competitive compensation with annual bonuses, a 401k match up to 4%, paid certification renewals, tuition assistance, and generous paid time off including parental leave. The company has been recognized as a "Best Place to Work" for ten consecutive years and ranks among the fastest-growing design firms in the Southeast.
