About this role

Holder Construction is seeking an Assistant Field Engineer for a contract position on a Columbus-based project. You'll work directly under a Field Engineer to manage layout and control operations on active construction sites, using surveying equipment like total stations, site levels, and data collectors to establish accurate positioning for structural elements, foundations, and other critical components. Your day-to-day work involves coordinating with field crews and trade partners, verifying that layouts meet contract specifications and tolerances, and ensuring construction activities stay aligned with project schedules.

This role demands hands-on experience leading layout crews and solid technical competency across multiple areas: you'll need to read and interpret structural, architectural, and civil drawings; work comfortably with AutoCAD and Bluebeam; and possess the math skills to handle conversions between decimal and fractional measurements, concrete quantity calculations, and geometric problem-solving. You should be comfortable operating standard surveying and field tools, and physically capable of working outdoors in all weather, lifting equipment up to 50 pounds, and moving across uneven surfaces and heights.

Holder Construction offers competitive benefits including an annual bonus program, paid time off, health and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan, and shift differentials where applicable. The role requires flexibility with overtime and weekend hours, reliable transportation, willingness to travel, and the ability to pass a background check and substance abuse screening. This is a full-time, in-person position in Columbus, Ohio.
