About this role
Hawthorne Machinery Co. is hiring a Tech 1 for its Maui service operation to diagnose, repair, and rebuild construction and power generation equipment under the direction of a Service Manager. The role involves hands-on troubleshooting of Caterpillar and allied machinery, performing welding and electrical repairs, reconditioning major components to manufacturer specs, and completing warranty assessments. You'll work both in the shop and in the field, managing your own time efficiently while meeting established quality standards and safety protocols.
This is a temporary, in-office position that demands physical capability—you'll be lifting up to 60 pounds regularly, climbing in and out of equipment, working in variable weather and shop conditions, and spending extended periods in awkward positions under machinery. The job requires at least five years of relevant experience, a high school diploma, valid driver's license, PC skills, and your own hand tools. Forklift certification is mandatory within 60 days if you don't already have it.
Hawthorne offers competitive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) with company matching, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and boot reimbursement. The hourly rate is $44.36. This role is union-represented under ILWU and suits someone with solid mechanical experience who works independently, takes pride in quality workmanship, and is comfortable with the physical demands of equipment service work in a Hawaii location.
