About this role
MacKay Sposito is expanding its mining practice in the Southwest and seeking an experienced civil engineer to lead both technical delivery and business development. You would own the civil and geotechnical components of mine reclamation, remediation, and closure projects—managing scope, budget, schedule, and regulatory compliance while supervising technical staff and directing field activities. The role blends hands-on engineering work with client relationship building and pursuit of new projects, requiring you to wear both the "doer" and "seller" hats.
This position demands at least 10 years of progressive mining sector experience, a PE license in New Mexico or Arizona, and deep expertise in earthworks, tailings, heap leach pads, and water management systems. You'll prepare designs, calculations, and technical reports; participate in permitting; and communicate regularly with clients. The hybrid arrangement is based in either Albuquerque or Phoenix with 20% travel, and the salary range is $135,000 to $185,000 depending on your background.
The role suits someone ready to grow a practice in a specific region and willing to balance project delivery with business development. MacKay offers standard benefits, 401(k) matching, paid licensure, and employee ownership opportunities, positioning this as a long-term career move rather than a transitional role.
