About this role
Working on Olsson's Rail Structures team as an intern means supporting the full lifecycle of railroad engineering projects—from design and modeling through site visits and technical documentation. You'll use industry-standard software like MicroStation, Risa 3D, and Bluebeam Revu to assist with plan production, perform calculations, and help prepare research for technical reports. While your work will be clearly scoped and completed under direct supervision, you'll contribute to real projects that address genuine infrastructure challenges, and you may also mentor other student interns as you build your own foundation.
This role suits someone with a civil or structural engineering degree who holds or can obtain an Engineer Intern certificate. Experience with the preferred software tools is valuable but not required if you're willing to learn. You'll need strong communication and problem-solving skills, comfort working collaboratively, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail. The position is based in Omaha and requires travel to construction sites in varying conditions and terrain, so a valid driver's license and flexible schedule are essential.
Olsson emphasizes growth and mentorship, offering structured development and the chance to understand how a consulting firm operates. As an intern, you'll gain hands-on experience in design software, engineering calculations, and industry practices while contributing meaningfully to projects that improve communities.
