About this role
Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral is hiring a Laboratory and Pharmacy Technician for their specialty animal hospital in Portland. This full-time role works Thursday through Saturday, 9am to 9pm, and centers on two interconnected functions: managing the in-house laboratory operations and handling pharmaceutical preparation and inventory. You'd perform routine diagnostic tests like bloodwork and urinalysis, maintain all lab equipment and quality controls, pack samples for outside labs, and manage the complete pharmacy workflow—from accurately dispensing medications according to veterinary prescriptions to tracking controlled substances and maintaining inventory through the Cubex software system.
The position demands someone with at least two years of veterinary experience, ideally in an emergency or specialty setting where pace and accuracy matter equally. You'll need strong attention to detail to catch critical lab results and flag them immediately to veterinarians, troubleshoot equipment issues, and reconcile pharmacy discrepancies. Computer proficiency is essential, particularly with Cubex; prior experience with Smartflow or EzyVet is a plus. The work is physically demanding—you'll be on your feet for extended periods, lifting up to 30 pounds regularly and 75 pounds with assistance.
BVER offers a solid benefits package including health and dental insurance, 401(k) matching, disability coverage, paid time off, and quarterly bonus potential, plus professional development support. The role requires flexibility to work additional hours when needed and some holiday coverage.
