Description

At Ripple, we’re building a world where value moves like information does today. It’s big, it’s bold, and we’re already doing it. Through our crypto solutions for financial institutions, businesses, governments and developers, we are improving the global financial system and creating greater economic fairness and opportunity for more people, in more places around the world. And we get to do the best work of our career and grow our skills surrounded by colleagues who have our backs.

If you’re ready to see your impact and unlock incredible career growth opportunities, join us, and build real world value.

THE WORK:

As Head of Managed Services, you own the delivery, performance, and growth of our Hedge Accounting managed services practice, spanning FX and Interest Rate Risk management. You lead a team of Derivative Accountants and Managers, and you’re accountable for the practice end to end: client satisfaction, delivery quality, staffing, and the workflows that let the team execute with consistent quality and client satisfaction.

Beyond running today’s practice, you’ll shape where it goes next: bringing AI and automation into how the team delivers, partnering with Product Management on what clients need now and next, and expanding the value clients realize across Ripple’s broader platform.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Practice Management & Operations

  • Own the day-to-day operating model, from trade capture through close, disclosure, and audit response, across FX and Interest Rate programs.
  • Lead Hedge Accounting Managers and Derivative Accountants; own hiring, org design, and workforce planning.
  • Drive resource planning and capacity forecasting; set and hold the team accountable to delivery KPIs.
  • Identify and introduce AI and automation that make the team faster and more scalable; own the practice’s AI roadmap.
  • Set the practice’s technical standards and methodology for FX and Interest Rate hedge programs; serve as final escalation for issues the SME can’t resolve.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Set performance expectations, coach, and give feedback that builds both technical depth and delivery discipline.
  • Develop each Manager’s technical and people leadership so routine decisions get made without you.
  • Build the team’s fluency with AI-enabled tools and new ways of working.

Technical Expertise & Escalation

  • Serve as a practice technical expert on ASC 815 and IFRS 9 hedge accounting across FX and Interest Rate risk.
  • Act as escalation point for novel, contested, or high-risk questions and step into audit conversations personally, when required.
  • Track FASB/IASB developments and keep the practice ahead of upcoming changes.

Product Collaboration & Portfolio Expansion

  • Partner with Product Management, translating what you see across the practice into clear guidance on current and future client needs.
  • Represent the client’s evolving needs in product planning.
  • Identify and lead expansion opportunities that help clients realize value across Ripple’s broader portfolio, beyond hedge accounting managed services.

Client & Cross-Functional

  • Serve as senior escalation point for the most complex client, audit, and accounting matters.
  • Build strategic relationships with client treasury, accounting, and finance leadership.
  • Partner with Product, Implementation, and Customer Success on platform capabilities and service design; with Sales and Renewals on growth and retention.
  • Represent Managed Services in internal reporting on portfolio health and performance.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • CPA and/or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 15+ years progressive accounting experience, 10-12+ years in derivative instruments and hedge accounting under ASC 815/IFRS 9, spanning FX and Interest Rate risk.
  • 7+ years managing accounting/finance teams, including managing managers.
  • Proven operational leadership of a service practice: staffing, capacity planning, KPIs, workflow design.
  • Deep, current fluency in ASC 815/IFRS 9 — able to independently defend complex, contested positions.
  • Strong grasp of FX instruments (forwards, options, cross-currency swaps) and interest rate instruments (swaps, caps, floors, collars).
  • A point of view on where AI genuinely changes service delivery, and experience evaluating and/or deploying it in an operations/accounting context.
  • Experience shaping a product roadmap in partnership with Product or Engineering, ideally in a software/platform business.
  • Track record of driving account expansion, not just protecting what’s already sold.
  • Hedge accounting platform experience (Ripple Treasury, Chatham, Reval, FIS Quantum, or comparable TMS) strongly preferred.
  • A strong communicator, able to make complex conclusions accessible, holds ground with auditors and skeptical clients.

About this role

Ripple Treasury is looking for someone to build and run a managed services practice from the ground up—leading a team of derivative accountants while owning everything from client delivery and staffing to technical standard-setting on hedge accounting. You'd manage the day-to-day operations of FX and Interest Rate Risk hedge accounting services, forecast capacity against a growing client base, track delivery KPIs, and resolve the most complex technical issues when they surface. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on leadership and deep technical expertise: you're accountable for the practice's operational health and growth, but you're also the final escalation point for contested de-designations, novel structuring questions, and auditor pushbacks.

The role demands someone with 12+ years of accounting experience, including 8–10 years specifically in derivative instruments and hedge accounting under ASC 815 and IFRS 9. You'll need 5+ years managing accounting or finance teams—including managers, not just individual contributors—and proven experience running the operational side of a service practice. A CPA is required; an advanced degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. Beyond credentials, you need genuine technical depth in both FX and interest rate derivatives, the confidence to defend complex positions to auditors, and the ability to build processes that let a growing team execute consistently.

This is a full-time, in-office role in Chicago with a salary range of $196,000–$240,000. It's built for someone who wants to own a practice end-to-end: designing how work flows, developing people, setting technical direction, and growing a client portfolio—not managing by spreadsheet alone, but staying close enough to the technical work to know when something doesn't add up.
