About this role
Runwise is looking for a Lead Building Controls Technician to install and service the hardware and software systems that manage energy in thousands of buildings across the country. You'd be responsible for setting up control networks and sensors in residential and commercial properties, testing systems, troubleshooting boiler rooms, coordinating with other technicians, and maintaining the tracking systems and inventory that keep operations running. The role combines hands-on technical work with logistical coordination—you'll need to manage your time across multiple installations and service calls while keeping detailed records that support teams across the company.
You'll need solid experience in electrical, HVAC, or heating work, plus a working knowledge of computers and circuits. The ideal candidate is self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable problem-solving on the fly. A valid driver's license and Boston-area location are required; Spanish language skills are a bonus. Runwise offers the typical startup benefits package—medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid parental leave, and flexible PTO—along with summer Fridays and access to mental health resources.
This is positioned as a stepping stone into a larger role at a growing climate-tech company. You'd be working directly with the systems that remove the equivalent of 80,000 cars' worth of carbon emissions annually, which appeals if you care about the environmental impact alongside the technical work itself.
