About this role
Prevail Legal, a well-funded legal tech startup, is seeking a freelance digital court reporter to support remote and in-person depositions and legal proceedings through their platform. Based primarily in Columbus, Ohio, you'll handle the technical and administrative side of live stenographic sessions—recording, managing exhibits, swearing in witnesses, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. The role reports to the Senior Operations Manager and requires you to be present in-office for local proceedings while working remotely otherwise.
You'll need a current Ohio notary license, a solid grasp of Ohio legal requirements and basic national court procedures, and comfort with video conferencing and database platforms. Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office is essential. This is an hourly position paying $20–$25 per hour depending on your experience and legal knowledge. You'll need your own computer, webcam, and headset to get started.
This role suits someone with legal process knowledge who's organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple moving parts during live sessions. If you're based in or willing to work from the Columbus area and have notary credentials and platform experience, this could be a good fit for flexible, project-based work in a growing legal tech company.
