Description

PER DIEM CLINICIAN

Transforming student mental health in schools.

About Effective School Solutions

Effective School Solutions (ESS) is a leading provider of school-based mental health services, serving 6,000+ K–12 students across 12 states.

We deliver the level of clinical care typically found in private practice, out-of-district placements, or higher levels of care directly within public schools- providing a full continuum of clinical programming, professional development, and district consultation.

Position Type: Per Diem

This is a per diem position and is not eligible for benefits. Per diem clinicians support ESS on an as-needed basis, including coverage for leave assignments (e.g., medical or maternity leave).

Clinicians in this role have flexibility in their level of commitment. Per diem clinicians can accept or decline assignments based on their availability.

This role does not follow a consistent full-time schedule; however, full-time hours may be required on a temporary basis when covering extended leave assignments.

About this role

Effective School Solutions is seeking a licensed clinician to work on a per diem basis in Hartford, providing school-based mental health services to K–12 students. This is flexible, as-needed work—you can pick up occasional shifts, commit to a few days weekly, or take on temporary full-time coverage during extended leave assignments. You'll have the autonomy to accept or decline work based on your availability, though full-time hours may be required when filling longer-term absences.

The role combines direct clinical care with clinical leadership. You'll deliver individual, group, and family therapy; conduct assessments and crisis intervention; and develop evidence-based treatment plans. You'll also supervise assigned clinicians, facilitate consultation sessions, and serve as the primary clinical contact for school partners, providing training and guidance on trauma-informed practices to staff and families. Strong documentation and compliance with regulatory standards are essential.

You'll need an active clinical license (LCSW, LPC, or LMFT), a master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field, and at least four years working with children and adolescents with behavioral or emotional needs. Two or more years of clinical supervision experience is required, along with demonstrated ability to train educational professionals and work collaboratively across schools, families, and community services. This role suits clinicians who want school-day hours without weekend or on-call demands, value clinical autonomy, and are committed to evidence-based practice in underserved settings.
