Effective School Solutions (ESS) is a leading provider of school-based mental health services, serving 6,000+ K–12 students across 12 states.

About this role

Effective School Solutions is seeking a per diem licensed clinician to provide school-based mental health services in Richmond, Rhode Island on a flexible, as-needed basis. This role offers genuine scheduling flexibility—you can pick up occasional shifts, commit to a few days weekly, or take on temporary full-time work during extended leave coverage, accepting or declining assignments based on your availability. There are no benefits in this per diem position, but you'll work a school-day schedule with no weekends and light summers.

You'll deliver direct clinical care including individual, group, and family therapy, risk assessments, and crisis intervention for K–12 students. Beyond direct service, you'll oversee day-to-day program operations at your assigned school, serve as the primary clinical contact for school staff, facilitate weekly consultation sessions, and provide training and coaching to educational professionals and families on trauma-informed practices. Strong documentation, active licensure, and reliable professional presence are essential.

This role suits a licensed clinician (LCSW, LPC, or LMFT) with at least four years of experience working with children and adolescents, ideally in school settings. You'll need demonstrated skill in building relationships across students, families, and school teams, the ability to make sound decisions in fluid situations, and a commitment to evidence-based practice. ESS emphasizes small caseloads, ongoing clinical support, free continuing education, and competitive pay—positioning this as a meaningful option for clinicians seeking flexible work without the constraints of a traditional full-time schedule.
