About this role

Point72's Buffalo office is seeking quantitative research interns to work on real market prediction and systematic trading problems using advanced statistical and machine learning techniques. You'll spend your time preparing large datasets for analysis—validating, cleaning, normalizing, and reducing dimensionality—and then identifying features and relationships that could drive predictive models of market behavior. This is hands-on work with actual trading applications, not theoretical exercises.

The role targets graduate students or researchers with strong foundations in quantitative fields: finance, computer science, mathematics, physics, or similar disciplines. You'll need solid programming skills in at least one language (C++, Java, C#, MATLAB, R, Python, or Perl) and genuine analytical ability. Beyond technical chops, Point72 values clear communication, attention to detail, and self-direction—you should be comfortable working independently on defined problems while also collaborating within a small team. A demonstrated interest in financial markets and how systematic trading works will set you apart.
