About this role
Echo Neurotechnologies is building brain-computer interface technology to restore autonomy for people with disabilities, and this role sits at the intersection of neuroscience and product. As an Applied AI Scientist, you'd work on the core technical challenge: designing ML models that decode brain signals into actionable control signals. Your day-to-day would involve building and refining transformers and other architectures on time-series neural data, prototyping new techniques from recent literature, and moving models from research into real medical products—work that directly affects patient outcomes.
The role demands substantial depth in ML fundamentals and hands-on experience. You'll need at least five years of combined academic and industry experience, with proven success designing and deploying models at scale using distributed platforms, GPUs, and PyTorch. Transformer experience and fluency with high-dimensional time-series data are essential. Beyond technical chops, the position requires rigor around reproducibility: versioned code, documented pipelines, and eventually contributions to quality management systems as models become part of regulated medical devices.
This is a small-team environment where your contributions carry real weight. You'd collaborate closely across functions to iterate on models and integrate them into product, while staying current with the rapidly evolving AI landscape. If you have the ML credentials and want to apply cutting-edge techniques to a problem with tangible human impact, and you're comfortable with the in-office requirement in San Francisco, this could be a strong fit.
