About this role

ON.energy is building grid-safe data centers through its patented AI UPS technology, and this role puts you at the center of that mission. As Principal Electrical Engineer, you'll serve as the technical authority for electrical system design across the company's product lines—setting standards, leading complex architecture work, and ensuring compliance with codes like NEC, IEEE, and UL standards that govern energy storage and mission-critical power systems. This is a senior individual contributor position requiring deep expertise in power systems analysis, protection coordination, grounding strategy, and systems integration, combined with the ability to mentor mid- and senior-level engineers across the Hardware Engineering team.

Your day-to-day work spans the full spectrum of electrical engineering rigor: performing load flow and arc flash studies, leading design reviews, establishing verification methods for compliance, and compiling technical documentation packages. You'll recommend vendors and design approaches for key equipment, support root cause analyses on field issues, and travel up to 20 percent for prototype testing and commissioning. The role demands 10 to 15+ years of experience in electrical systems analysis, energy storage, or industrial applications, backed by a master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and a strong track record producing and reviewing schematics and specifications at the product level.

This position is based in Houston and requires in-office presence. A PE license and prior experience with data center electrical design, battery storage standards (UL9540, NFPA 855, UL1741, UL1778), or UPS and power electronics systems would strengthen your candidacy.
