About this role
Momentus Space is building the infrastructure for commercial space transportation, and this role sits at the technical core of that mission. As a Power Systems Engineer, you would design and optimize the electrical systems that keep spacecraft operational during long-duration missions—managing power distribution, battery interfaces, and load analysis across different mission phases. The work spans the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements and design through testing and production support, with particular emphasis on power budgeting, efficiency trade studies, and hands-on troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate brings either a master's degree in electrical engineering or physics with five years of experience, or a bachelor's degree with ten years in the field. You'll need solid grounding in circuit analysis, power integrity, PCB layout for high-current applications, and spacecraft or aerospace power systems specifically, including battery management. The role demands both technical depth—proficiency with industry tools and clear documentation—and the ability to collaborate across disciplines during system integration and testing. Working in San Jose on-site, you'd be part of a fast-moving team where reliability and efficiency directly impact mission success.
Prior experience with defense or government space programs and an ability to obtain a security clearance are valued. The salary range is $140,000 to $195,000 annually, plus bonus, equity, and standard benefits including flexible PTO and parental leave. Note that U.S. citizenship or equivalent status is required due to export control regulations.
