Description

FERMÀT is the leading commerce AI platform that partners with the world's largest brands to deliver dynamic, personalized shopping experiences. Our technology powers the customer journeys behind enterprises like GNC, Backcountry, and Glossier and allows them to deliver best-in-class shopper engagement and conversion while enabling them to stay on the cutting edge of what's possible in agentic commerce.

We're backed by VMG, Bain Capital Ventures, Greylock, and QED, and have been named The Information's #1 commerce startup. We're a 60+ person team based in SF, NYC, and Bangalore — come build the infrastructure of the future of commerce with us!

About the Role:

We’re looking for exceptional engineers who can operate across teams, stacks, and problem spaces, and turn ambitious ideas into production-grade systems.

This is not a narrowly scoped, team-specific role. You’ll work wherever impact is highest across our platform: core infrastructure, customer-facing features, data systems, internal tooling, or new product initiatives.

We’re especially interested in engineers who are AI-native in their workflow. You use modern AI tools to increase velocity, improve quality, and explore solutions faster. You have strong product instincts, operate with high agency, and care deeply about shipping meaningful outcomes.

If you thrive in ambiguity and enjoy owning problems end-to-end, we’d love to talk.

What You'll Work On:

  • Own high-impact initiatives from concept through production.
  • Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, and frontend experiences.
  • Prototype quickly and iterate based on user feedback and business impact.
  • Move fluidly across different parts of the stack as company needs evolve.
  • Improve engineering quality and velocity through thoughtful use of AI tooling.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and help raise the bar across engineering.

What We're Looking For:

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience as a founder, or as an early engineer at a startup.
  • Strong product sense and a track record of shipping meaningful features or products.
  • AI native workflow: you actively use LLMs and modern coding agents to meaningfully increase leverage.
  • Ability to work across multiple stacks without rigid specialization.
  • Strong systems design fundamentals and comfort owning production systems.
  • High agency, strong judgment, and comfort operating in ambiguity.
  • Clear communication and low-ego collaboration.

Please include GitHub, side projects, demos, or write-ups of products you’ve built. We prioritize engineers who consistently ship.

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance for you and all your dependents.
