About this role
Avride is hiring Safety Drivers to operate autonomous vehicles in Austin and support the real-world testing that powers their self-driving technology. You'll split your time between manually driving their vehicles and supervising them in autonomous mode, working closely with remote operators. Your consistent attention to safety, hazard awareness, and decision-making directly feed high-quality data back into their system—making this role central to how their autonomous platform improves.
Beyond driving, you'll handle vehicle preparation, basic technical support like hardware adjustments and software uploads, and submit detailed reports on performance and conditions. The position offers flexible scheduling with multiple 8-hour and 10-hour shift options across day and evening windows, paid weekly at $25/hour, and full-time benefits including healthcare, disability coverage, and a 401(k) after a 60-day eligibility period.
You'll need at least three years of valid driving history with a clean record, plus demonstrated strong safety awareness—whether from autonomous vehicle operations, driving instruction, motorsports, or professional driving roles like rideshare. The role requires you to be based in the Austin area, pass a background check and drug screening, and show comfort driving in varied conditions and traffic situations. Defensive driving certification is a plus but not required.
