Engineering at Brex
Engineering at Brex is about building systems that scale with speed and intention. Our teams span Software, Data, Security, and IT, and operate with high autonomy and deep collaboration. We tackle hard technical problems, own our outcomes, and push for excellence at every level — from architecture to deployment. It’s an environment where engineering is a craft, and builders become leaders.
What you’ll do
As a Senior Software Engineer on our Task Workflows Platform team, you will build and scale the foundational backend systems that power core experiences across Brex. You will work across our extensive suite of platforms, including our multi-channel notifications engine, collaborative commenting system, and dynamic workflow rule builder. You will also play a pivotal role in evolving our task orchestration infrastructure, helping us transition from a centralized, generic experience into highly tailored, purpose-built solutions for specific product domains.
You will tackle complex distributed systems challenges, from designing scalable APIs and rule-evaluation engines for custom automations to modeling the data and orchestration logic behind our domain-specific task experiences. Because teams across Brex build on these platforms, extensibility and ease of adoption matter as much as scale and reliability. Beyond core platform work, you will be part of a team that directly shapes broader product experiences, including leveraging AI to streamline user workflows. As Brex builds more AI-native products, you will also have the opportunity to help build the shared infrastructure that enables AI product development across the company.

We currently require a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!

- Tune and polish features to a high degree of excellence.

About this role
Brex's Task Workflows Platform team is looking for a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to build and scale the infrastructure behind core product experiences—spanning notification systems, collaborative tools, and workflow automation. You'd own problems end-to-end, from designing backend APIs and rule-evaluation engines to building intuitive frontend interfaces, while working across a suite of platforms that touch tens of thousands of companies. The role combines deep technical work with cross-functional collaboration and the chance to shape how Brex's productivity tools evolve on web and mobile.
This position requires seven or more years of full-stack development experience, with strong proficiency in backend languages like Java, Kotlin, or Python and solid expertise in distributed systems, database design, and modern frontend technologies including React and TypeScript. You should be comfortable architecting scalable, high-availability systems and have a track record of owning outcomes across the entire product lifecycle. Experience driving initiatives across teams, running experiments, or working with AI tools is valued but not required.
Based in Vancouver with a hybrid arrangement (three coordinated days in-office per week, plus up to four weeks fully remote annually), the role offers a salary range of $192,000–$240,000 CAD, with equity and other compensation potentially included. You'd be joining an engineering culture that emphasizes craft, autonomy, and collaboration on hard technical problems.
