We control the majority of the stack and create, maintain, update, and monitor a variety of systems to keep the company’s trading running smoothly. Our hardware infrastructure operates entirely on Fedora Linux and incorporates significant first- and third-party software requiring occasional maintenance. This complete infrastructure has high uptime requirements to support our critical trading operations.

  • Implement automation solutions using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python)
  • Work with specialized hardware (FPGAs, custom network cards, high-frequency switches) to optimize latency in trading systems
  • Develop and document backup procedures and failover strategies, conducting drills to improve failure tolerance
  • Respond to issues and requests from the Operation and Technical teams

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a DevOps, Systems Engineering, or related role
  • Proven ability to build, optimize, and scale Linux-based infrastructure
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in fast-paced environment

About this role

Quantiq's DevOps Engineer role centers on managing and optimizing a substantial in-house infrastructure that directly supports high-frequency derivatives trading. You'd own a complex stack of 50–100 machines running Fedora Linux—from high-performance servers and datacenter hardware like FPGAs and switches to GPU-equipped desktops—with minimal tolerance for downtime. The work demands deep Linux tuning expertise, particularly around kernel parameters, latency optimization, and low-level system performance, alongside hands-on experience with specialized trading hardware and real-time networking configurations.

The position blends infrastructure modernization with operational firefighting. You'll analyze current systems to identify bottlenecks, design automation solutions in Bash and Python, manage backup and failover procedures, and respond to both planned improvements and off-hours emergencies. Success requires not just scripting and debugging chops but also familiarity with the specific technologies Quantiq uses—FreeIPA, OpenLDAP, ZFS, Gitea, and others—and a willingness to work across hardware, low-level software, and networking layers simultaneously.

This role suits someone with 5+ years of DevOps or systems engineering experience who thrives in a small, technically rigorous environment where infrastructure directly impacts business outcomes. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, enjoy solving complex problems at scale, and have the discipline to document and test your work thoroughly. The in-office requirement in Austin reflects the hands-on nature of the role and the team's collaborative approach.
