About this role
Pulse Healthcare is building a new nurse-led residential service for people with complex mental health needs in West Virginia, and they're seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to help establish it from the ground up. This is a part-time role at 15 hours per week, offering the chance to shape clinical practice and therapeutic culture in an emerging service rather than slot into an established one.
You'll hold clinical responsibility for residents, act as Responsible Clinician for those detained under the Mental Health Act, lead multidisciplinary ward rounds and risk reviews, and guide the team on assessment, formulation, and treatment planning. The work bridges direct clinical care—overseeing admissions, contributing to care plans, and managing complex presentations—with strategic input into how the service develops. You'll need CCT or equivalent in Psychiatry, full GMC registration, substantial NHS experience managing complex cases, and solid grounding in psychopharmacology, risk assessment, and relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and NICE guidelines. Leadership capability and comfort working collaboratively across disciplines are essential.
The role suits someone energized by building something new rather than maintaining the status quo, with the resilience to handle challenging cases and the empathy to support both residents and staff. Pulse offers the typical benefits package—parking, pension, flexible leave including a birthday day off—plus development pathways into senior clinical and leadership roles, professional qualification sponsorship, and management training.
