About this role

At George P. Johnson Experience Marketing, this Account Director role centers on stewarding client relationships and the financial health of assigned retainer accounts. You'll manage a portfolio of clients while overseeing staff, handling everything from scope negotiations and invoicing to performance analysis and solution development. Working closely with the Executive Director of Account Services, you'll balance competing priorities—maintaining margins, driving client satisfaction, and identifying growth opportunities—while ensuring your team stays aligned with GPJ's processes and client expectations.

The role demands someone equally comfortable in the boardroom and on the fabrication floor. You need strong financial acumen (estimating, margin analysis, cost drivers) paired with the ability to read engineering drawings and understand fabrication processes like carpentry, metalwork, and electrical work. Beyond the technical skills, this is fundamentally a relationship and leadership position: you'll need to communicate persuasively across all levels, lead a cross-functional matrix team, manage client escalations, and maintain the personal touchpoints that drive satisfaction.

This position requires a minimum of 10 years in agency or related work, with at least 6 years managing client accounts. A four-year degree is required (marketing, advertising, event management, or business-related fields preferred); an MBA is a plus. Based in Detroit with a hybrid arrangement requiring two days on-site weekly, the role offers a base salary of $125,000, adjusted for location and experience. GPJ offers an employee stock ownership plan, employer-matched 401(k) with no vesting, and a no-employee-contribution healthcare option.
