About this role
CannonDesign is seeking a Sr. Technical Leader to oversee quality and technical delivery across a large office or region in St. Louis. You'll join a multidisciplinary leadership team responsible for ensuring projects meet firm standards while driving strategic technical initiatives. This role demands someone with deep expertise in institutional and commercial construction—someone who can manage complex quality review processes, mentor senior project staff, and serve as a trusted advisor to project teams navigating high-stakes decisions.
The position requires hands-on involvement across the full project lifecycle, from risk assessment through construction administration. You'll coordinate quality reviews across all disciplines, lead phase milestone reviews, and act as the lead reviewer on very large projects. Beyond day-to-day project oversight, you'll develop office-wide quality strategies, capture and share institutional knowledge, evaluate emerging building technologies, and foster a culture of technical excellence through mentoring and regular forums. This is a leadership role that balances strategic planning with direct engagement on the firm's most complex and at-risk work.
You'll need a current architecture license or PE, a minimum of 18 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in construction documentation and 3 years in construction administration on significant institutional or commercial projects. Experience leading large projects exceeding $200M in construction costs is essential, as is fluency with Revit, BIM workflows, and construction management software. Strong communication skills, business acumen, and the ability to build rapport across teams are critical. This is a contract position requiring in-office presence in St. Louis.
