About this role

Michels Underground Cable installs the cables that power and connect communities—work that happens largely out of sight but remains critical infrastructure. As an Underground Power and Communications Laborer, you'd operate heavy equipment like mini-excavators, backhoes, and front-end loaders on deenergized buried power and telecommunications projects, moving materials and positioning cable systems that serve power transmission, distribution, renewable energy, and communication networks.

The role requires six months to a year of operator experience with the equipment you'd be using, a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, and a Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement (or the ability to obtain one). You'll work under a union collective bargaining agreement and should be prepared for travel. Michels invests significantly in employee development—averaging $5,000 per person annually on training—and maintains a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental coverage, 401(k), disability insurance, and other protections.

This opportunity suits someone who values hands-on work with tangible outcomes, prefers working alongside people committed to safety and quality, and wants to develop skills within a stable, family-owned company that's part of a larger North American infrastructure group. If you're comfortable with equipment operation, union work, and the physical demands of construction sites, this is a concrete entry point into essential infrastructure work.
