Modern Animal is on a mission to better the lives of animals by building a place that’s better for all of us who love them. We’re passionate about the veterinary profession and are seeking skilled Relief Registered Veterinary Technicians to join our Los Angeles team!
Location: Relief shifts are available at our Los Angeles clinics, ranging from 6 to 10 hours throughout the week.
What you’ll be working on:
- Maximize Your License: Utilize your RVT license to its fullest, delivering top-notch care
- Precision in Care: Maintain accurate medical records with the appropriate veterinary terminology
- Diagnostic Expertise: Perform lab work and radiology, ensuring quality results
- Pharmacology Knowledge: Handle controlled medications with attention to detail
- Collaborative Environment: Work closely with DVMs and the veterinary team to provide exceptional care
- Client Communication: Deliver clear, compassionate discharge instructions to pet owners

- Liability Insurance Recommended: At Modern Animal, our relief technicians work as independent contractors, so we recommend they carry their own liability insurance. This way, our relief technicians enjoy flexibility and independence while staying covered.
The pay range for this position is $300.00-379.50 per 10 hour shift; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will not be eligible for medical, financial, and/or other full-time benefits.This information is provided per the California Pay Transparency Act. Base pay information is based on geographic location.

About this role
Modern Animal's Los Angeles clinics are looking for Relief Registered Veterinary Technicians to work variable shifts of 6 to 10 hours throughout the week. You'd be using your RVT license across the full scope of veterinary care—performing lab work and radiology, managing controlled medications, maintaining medical records, and working alongside DVMs and the broader team to deliver high-quality patient care. The role emphasizes both collaboration and independence, with an expectation that you'll communicate clearly with clients during discharge and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
This position is structured as independent contractor work, which means flexibility in scheduling but also the responsibility to carry your own liability insurance. The pay ranges from $300 to $379.50 per 10-hour shift depending on your experience and credentials. Since this is relief work rather than a full-time staff role, benefits are not included. You'll need an active California RVT license and a successful VTNE completion.
