About this role
Modern Animal is seeking a relief veterinarian for their Downtown Los Angeles clinic—a role suited to practitioners looking for flexibility and structured shifts without the administrative burden typical of general practice. You'd work single-flow shifts focused on exams, urgent care, or procedures, supported by an in-clinic team and a 24/7 virtual care network that handles continuity for your patients. The clinic operates with modern technology designed to minimize paperwork and administrative overhead, allowing you to focus on clinical work within clear boundaries between shifts and personal time.
The position requires an active, good-standing license to practice in California and graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school. Modern Animal emphasizes mentorship, professional development with paid CE days and an annual allowance, and a collaborative, blame-free culture. Compensation is $1,500–$1,800 per shift, plus a sign-on bonus and equity grants, alongside comprehensive benefits including health coverage, 401K matching, mental health support through Spring Health, and discounted care for your own pets.
This role appeals to veterinarians seeking relief work or those testing a new practice model that prioritizes clinician wellbeing alongside quality patient care—without non-compete restrictions or the pressure of traditional practice ownership.
