About this role

Hawthorne Machinery Co. is seeking a Tech 3 for their Hilo service operation—a skilled technician role working largely independently under general direction from the Service Manager. You'll diagnose and repair complex heavy equipment including engines, powertrains, and hydraulic systems used in construction, agriculture, marine, and power generation. The work spans engine reconditioning, component replacement, system diagnostics, and precision adjustments across multiple equipment types. You'll need to meet flat-rate productivity standards and be comfortable working in a shop environment with noise, temperature variation, and occasional exposure to fumes and harsh substances.

This is a temporary, in-office position suited to experienced technicians with at least five years in equipment repair. You'll need a high school diploma, valid driver's license with clean record, PC skills, and your own hand tools; forklift certification is required or must be obtained within 60 days. The physical demands are substantial—frequent lifting up to 60 pounds, extended periods working under or in equipment, and regular use of power tools and diagnostic equipment.

Hawthorne offers competitive compensation at $51.64 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement. Additional perks include possible tool stipends, sponsored certifications, sign-on bonuses, and relocation assistance. The company emphasizes career growth and a strong workplace culture built on their stated values of Passion, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence.
