About this role
Sony Pictures Imageworks' Animation TD role bridges technical problem-solving and creative support on high-end film productions. You'd work within their proprietary animation pipeline, developing scripts and tools that help animators work more efficiently—automating repetitive tasks, identifying workflow bottlenecks, and collaborating with artists to prototype solutions. This is fundamentally a service role: you're embedded with production teams and the pipeline department, proactively addressing technical friction points while staying responsive to animator needs.
The position calls for solid Maya skills and Python programming experience, with knowledge of Bash/Linux and version control systems. Familiarity with Unreal Engine, Houdini, or C++ strengthens your candidacy, as does any background as a 3D or 2D artist—that context helps you understand what animators actually need. You'll report to multiple stakeholders (Pipeline Supervisor, Technical Supervising Animator, department heads), so clear communication and a collaborative mindset matter as much as technical depth. The role suits someone who enjoys debugging workflows as much as learning new tools, and who thrives in a team environment rather than working in isolation.
Based in Vancouver and in-office, the position offers $25.96 to $34.62 CAD per hour depending on experience and qualifications, plus standard benefits including healthcare, tuition reimbursement, and RRSP matching.
