Description

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join the APM (Application Performance Monitoring) team. This team is focused on helping engineers agentically troubleshoot and optimize their applications.

You'll learn the domain and proactively spot areas for improvement, getting stakeholder buy-in as needed. You'll own your design work end-to-end while helping shape broader product direction. You'll also hold a high bar for quality across the team and help other designers build support for their decisions.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • Become a design leader within APM by proactively identifying opportunities and shaping the design strategy across multiple product areas and workflows.
  • Partner closely with PMs and Engineers to ship intuitive experiences, balancing user needs with platform scalability and engineering constraints.
  • Conduct and synthesize qualitative and quantitative research to identify pain points, validate solutions, and guide roadmap decisions.
  • Communicate design rationale clearly and persuasively across design, engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support other designers by providing feedback, sharing frameworks and workflows, and helping raise the overall design quality bar across the organization.
  • Prototype in code to rapidly explore ideas and validate concepts.
  • Contribute to production code using AI-assisted workflows to ensure execution matches design intent.
  • Help the team adopt AI-enabled design workflows.

Who You Are:

  • You have 10+ years of experience in digital product design.
  • Your portfolio demonstrates a strong track record of designing and shipping complex technical products.
  • You use AI-assisted workflows to prototype and rapidly iterate.
  • You have a track record of connecting design decisions to measurable business outcomes --not just shipping features, but showing how your work moved the business forward.
  • You have shipped code and are interested in evolving how design teams incorporate AI tools into their workflows.
  • You are comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and influencing product direction through strong systems thinking and product judgment.
  • You have a track record of telling compelling stories that build alignment, influence stakeholders, and articulate a clear product and design vision.
  • You are deeply thoughtful about edge cases, scalability, information architecture, and designing for technical depth without sacrificing usability.
  • You proactively lead initiatives from concept to execution, balancing priorities and navigating complex stakeholder environments.
  • You have experience designing for developer platforms, observability tools, infrastructure products, or other highly technical domains.
  • You give and receive feedback well, and proactively mentor other designers to elevate the quality of the broader team.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

About this role

Datadog's APM team is seeking a seasoned product designer who can operate at the staff level—someone ready to shape design strategy across multiple product areas while mentoring peers and raising the bar for the entire design organization. You'll work end-to-end on complex technical products, partnering closely with product managers and engineers to ship intuitive experiences that balance user needs with platform constraints. This role demands both strategic thinking and hands-on execution: you'll conduct research to validate solutions, prototype in code using AI-assisted workflows, and contribute to production code to ensure designs are realized as intended.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of digital product design experience with a portfolio demonstrating shipped, complex technical products—ideally in developer platforms, observability, or infrastructure. You'll need a track record of connecting design decisions to measurable business outcomes, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to influence stakeholders through compelling storytelling and systems thinking. Experience shipping code and a genuine interest in evolving how design teams adopt AI tools are important differentiators. You should be thoughtful about edge cases, scalability, and information architecture while remaining deeply collaborative—giving and receiving feedback well, and proactively supporting other designers.

Based in New York with an in-office requirement, this role offers a salary range of $204,000–$255,000 plus new hire equity, professional development support, an employee stock purchase plan, and comprehensive benefits including mental health coverage and parental planning.
