Description

Advanced Reentry Technologies

Who We Are:

Inversion is an aerospace and defense company pioneering advanced reentry technology to enable next-generation capabilities from space. By combining high-performance materials, precision aerodynamics, and mission-driven autonomy, Inversion is transforming reentry into an operational capability for an entirely new class of missions.

The company’s highly maneuverable reentry spacecraft, Arc, is designed for rapid global cargo delivery, hypersonic testing, and other national security missions that require precise, controlled flight through the atmosphere. Arc creates an entirely new transportation domain, unlocking unprecedented speed and global reach.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Inversion designs, manufactures, and integrates its spacecraft under one roof, enabling the company to move rapidly from concept to flight. The company is backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, Spark Capital, and Lockheed Martin Ventures, with customers across the U.S. government and commercial space industry.

Position Overview:

As an Electronics Integration and Development Engineer at Inversion, you will work as part of the simulation team to design and develop the hardware-in-the-loop testbeds for our flight systems. You will own the integration of flight, simulation, and test hardware, and will be responsible for everything from making wiring harnesses to designing PCBs and writing code. The simulation team is responsible for ensuring that flight software and flight hardware can be continuously integrated and tested under realistic flight conditions. You will play a key role in the design, development, and integration of specialized hardware and software that will enable fast, repeatable development and deployment workflows across the engineering stack. The ideal candidate is a tinkerer who enjoys hands-on experimentation with embedded systems (such as microcontrollers and single-board computers) to quickly turn ideas into prototypes but also has the ability to turn those prototypes into production-ready hardware. Your work will empower Inversion’s engineering teams to iterate rapidly throughout the development life cycle and will strengthen Inversion’s ability to put our products into the hands of our customers with unprecedented speed and agility.

Key Reponsibilities:

  • Integrate and develop electronics hardware needed to enable on-demand, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation workflows
  • Create schematics and layouts for custom hardware (wiring harnesses and PCBs), with a focus on interface boards, breakout systems, and inter-system connectivity
  • Perform hands-on assembly of prototype wiring harnesses and PCBs
  • Own the transition from prototype to production, including overseeing external fabrication and assembly
  • Analyze circuit performance to ensure design meets requirements and perform acceptance testing to ensure hardware meets specifications
  • Write software as needed (e.g.: embedded software for micros, test scripts, etc.)
  • Contribute to the design and development of a simulation system capable of automatically provisioning and deploying resources to support simulation workflows

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in electronics integration, development, and testing
  • Experience with custom wiring harness design and assembly, including connector selection, pin mapping, wire sizing, and shielding strategies for EMI/EMC
  • Experience using common laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems, etc.)
  • Basic coding proficiency in one or more programming languages
  • Experience using PCBA design tools (Altium Designer, EAGLE, KiCad, etc.)
  • Experience implementing mixed-signal PCBs with digital communications (UART, I2C, SPI, RS422, RS485, CAN, PCIe, Ethernet, Spacewire, etc.)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Secret/Top Secret security clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expertise in PCB design and best practices for production-ready hardware
  • Expertise in one or more scripting languages (Python, Lua, Bash, PowerShell, etc.) and/or embedded C/C++
  • Experience designing high-reliability and/or safety-critical systems (e.g., for spacecraft or automotive applications)

Our office headquarters is located in Playa Vista, CA. This position requires in office presence.

The California annual base salary for this role is currently $140,000 - 170,000 Pay Grades are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data.  Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and internal equity.

About this role

Inversion is building reusable spacecraft that can loiter in orbit and land precisely on Earth, and this role sits at the heart of making that possible. As a Sr. Electronics Integration and Development Engineer, you'll own the hardware-in-the-loop testbeds that let the company's flight software and hardware iterate continuously under realistic conditions. Your work spans the full spectrum: designing wiring harnesses and PCBs, assembling prototypes, writing embedded code and test scripts, analyzing circuit performance, and shepherding designs from prototype through production. You'll be the bridge between simulation, flight systems, and test hardware, directly enabling the engineering teams to move faster.

This role demands someone with at least five years of hands-on electronics integration experience who can move fluidly between schematic design, lab troubleshooting, and code. You need solid grounding in PCB design tools, mixed-signal circuit design with digital communication protocols, wiring harness best practices, and standard lab equipment. Beyond the core requirements, experience with production-ready hardware design, scripting languages, and high-reliability systems (aerospace or automotive) will set you apart. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident eligible for a Secret or Top Secret clearance due to ITAR regulations.

The position is based in Inversion's Playa Vista headquarters and requires in-office presence. The salary range is $140,000–$170,000 annually, with individual compensation determined by experience, skills, and interview performance.
