Description

Advanced Reentry Technologies

Who We Are:

Inversion is an aerospace and defense company pioneering advanced reentry technology to enable next-generation capabilities from space. By combining high-performance materials, precision aerodynamics, and mission-driven autonomy, Inversion is transforming reentry into an operational capability for an entirely new class of missions.

The company’s highly maneuverable reentry spacecraft, Arc, is designed for rapid global cargo delivery, hypersonic testing, and other national security missions that require precise, controlled flight through the atmosphere. Arc creates an entirely new transportation domain, unlocking unprecedented speed and global reach.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Inversion designs, manufactures, and integrates its spacecraft under one roof, enabling the company to move rapidly from concept to flight. The company is backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, Spark Capital, and Lockheed Martin Ventures, with customers across the U.S. government and commercial space industry.

Position Overview:

As a HIL Technician at Inversion, you will work as part of the simulation team to build, test, maintain, and develop the automated hardware systems that support the simulation and test environments for our flight systems. The simulation team is responsible for ensuring that flight software and flight hardware can be continuously integrated and tested under realistic flight conditions. You will play a key role in the creation and maintenance of electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test benches that will enable fast, repeatable development and deployment workflows across the engineering stack. Your work will empower Inversion’s engineering teams to iterate rapidly throughout the development life cycle and will strengthen Inversion’s ability to put our products into the hands of our customers with unprecedented speed and agility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate electronics hardware needed to enable on-demand, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation workflows
  • Modify schematics and layouts for custom wiring harnesses
  • Perform hands-on assembly/rework of prototype wiring harnesses and PCBs
  • Install and maintain servers, electrical ground support equipment (EGSE), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test benches to support simulation workflows
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting to maximize simulation system availability
  • Calibrate equipment to ensure simulation system performance
  • Contribute to the design and development of a simulation system capable of automatically provisioning and deploying resources to support simulation workflow
  • 3+ years of professional experience doing hands-on assembly/rework of prototype wiring harnesses and PCBs

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in the integration and testing of mission- and safety-critical electronics
  • Ability to execute autonomously (for example, given a high-level task like “build a test rack for this component”, gather the necessary information and designs from the relevant engineering teams to execute on the task)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Secret/Top Secret security clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems
  • Experience in harness design
  • Experience with 3d printing and other rapid-prototyping technologies
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Python, Lua, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)

Our office headquarters is located in Playa Vista, CA. This position requires in office presence.

About this role

Inversion is building spacecraft for rapid payload delivery from orbit, and this role sits at the heart of making that possible—you'd be part of the simulation team that keeps their flight systems development moving at speed. As a HIL Technician II, you'd own the hands-on work of building and maintaining the hardware-in-the-loop test benches and electrical ground support equipment that let engineers continuously validate flight software and hardware under realistic conditions. This means integrating electronics, assembling and reworking wiring harnesses and PCBs, installing and troubleshooting test infrastructure, and calibrating systems to keep simulation availability high.

The role demands someone with at least three years of hands-on experience assembling and reworking prototype electronics in mission-critical environments. You'll need to work autonomously—taking a high-level objective from engineering teams and executing it end-to-end, pulling designs and specs as needed. The job also requires the ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance and ITAR compliance (U.S. citizenship or equivalent status). Experience with EGSE and HIL systems, harness design, rapid prototyping, and scripting languages would strengthen your candidacy, though aren't required.

This is an in-office role in Playa Vista, California, paying $32–$47 per hour based on experience and qualifications. It's suited for someone who thrives in hands-on technical work, values autonomy, and wants to directly impact how quickly a space-tech company can iterate and deploy.
