Position Summary
As an Chief Estimator with Auld & White, you'll work in our office to lead our estimating and bidding process for our construction projects. This is a hands-on Chief Estimator role, with significant time dedicated to both leading the Estimating Team and personally completing estimates.
Position Description
- Lead and oversee the estimating process, ensuring accurate, competitive proposals through effective team leadership, risk analysis, cost forecasting, and collaboration across departments.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Owners, Clients, Designers, Subcontractors, and Suppliers, reflecting the Company’s core values.
- Collaborate with the Preconstruction Team on negotiated opportunities and conceptual estimates.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the estimating team, identifying high-potential employees for future leadership roles.
- Manage labor cost analysis for self-performed work, updating production rates based on historical and market data.
- Oversee subcontractor solicitation, bid coverage, and use of the company’s Bid-Room system to ensure effective communication and participation goals are met.
- Evaluate opportunities for self-perform work and strategic sequencing to maximize competitiveness, and assist in developing bid day strategies.
- Stay current with estimating and bid solicitation software, providing training and recommending updates as needed.
- Serve as lead estimator on projects when necessary based on workload or project complexity.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
- 10 - 15 years relevant Commercial construction experience
- 5+ years of Commercial estimating experience, including leading others
- Ability to work at our headquarters location in Jacksonville, FL - this is not a remote position
- Working knowledge of construction methods, systems, and installations
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Highly motivated with strong organizational skills.
