About this role
Sony Pictures Imageworks' Vancouver studio is seeking an experienced rigger to build 3D character rigs and animation controls for feature film projects. You'd be responsible for creating skeletal motion systems and body/facial deformations, writing utility scripts to streamline setup workflows, and working across Maya, Mudbox, MEL, and scripting languages like Python. The role demands both technical depth and artistic sensibility—a background in fine art combined with solid understanding of physical motion, weight, and form is highly valued.
This is a project-based, full-time position working in-office. You'll need at least three years of production experience, ideally with feature film credits, and demonstrated proficiency in Linux, Unix, Maya, and shell scripting. The work involves close collaboration with production teams, supervisors, and peers through dailies, reviews, and problem-solving sessions, so you should be comfortable receiving feedback and meeting show deadlines while working either independently or as part of a team. A demo reel showcasing your rigging work is required with your application.
The position offers a base salary of $45.07 to $60.10 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus company benefits including healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSPs, and standard leave.
