About this role
CityVet's externship program offers third- and fourth-year DVM students a two-week clinical rotation in small animal general practice, with many locations providing urgent care exposure as well. You'll work directly with experienced veterinary teams on hands-on cases spanning general medicine and surgery, client communication, and clinic operations. The program emphasizes mentorship from practicing veterinarians and is structured to be flexible around your university's rotation requirements, with customization available to match your clinical interests and career goals.
The organization itself is veterinarian-founded and led, built around the principle that doctors should have autonomy and support rather than corporate constraints. This externship gives you a realistic window into that practice model before deciding whether it aligns with your post-graduation plans. You'll receive a competitive stipend paid via direct deposit, though you'll need to arrange your own housing (though prior externs' recommendations are available). International students are welcome if enrolled at an AVMA-accredited school and authorized to work in the U.S., though visa sponsorship is not offered.
This role suits students who want substantive clinical mentorship in a collegial environment and are genuinely exploring whether a veterinarian-led practice model fits their career trajectory. Apply through the form on their site or contact campusrecruitment@cityvet.com with questions.
