Position: 

Senior Director, Global Scientific Communications, will be a strategic partner responsible for developing, managing, and executing Annexon’s global scientific communications strategy and content across various platforms to support the companies’ medical and scientific objectives. This role involves creating high-quality publications and scientific materials, managing communication processes, leading the Medical Information function and ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices. This position will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to advance the scientific narrative and impact of Annexon’s therapeutic areas. This role will report to the Sr. Vice President of Global Medical Affairs.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Develop and execute an integrated global strategy for Scientific Communications, Publications, and Medical Information aligned with corporate and therapeutic area Medical Affairs objectives; delivering measurable impact across internal and external stakeholders
  • In collaboration with internal partners and utilizing externally derived insights, develop robust global scientific communications and publication strategies across Annexon’s therapeutic areas.
  • Direct the creation of high-quality scientific communications (inclusive of scientific platforms, lexicons, abstracts, manuscripts, congress presentations, publications) and related processes.
  • Develop scientific content for non-CME presentations at medical conferences, advisory board meetings, congress exhibits, field medical presentations, and internal Annexon meetings.
  • Develop and lead Medical Information strategy and operations; accountable all aspects of Medical Information, including but limited to creation of procedures and norms, oversight of staff and vendors, and creation of materials used to respond to unsolicited medical requests responses from external parties including but not limited to health care professionals, patients, and health care organizations.
  • Establish and implement a process for tracking all scientific communications across Annexon to ensure timely, and compliant execution of Annexon’s scientific/medical communication plan.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders in Program Strategy & Operations, and all functional areas to ensure real-time knowledge, and on-time execution of data communications, including but not limited to congress abstract submissions, publications, and external Annexon presentations.
  • Drive innovation in scientific engagement utilizing emerging technologies to implement omnichannel medical education approaches.
  • Manage all scientific communication plan timelines and KPIs; communicate progress regularly with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a senior strategic partner to therapeutic area Medical Affairs Leads, field medial leadership, clinical development and project leadership to establish and implement effective scientific communications strategies and deliverables.
  • Represent Annexon with external stakeholders such as authors, journals, scientific/medical societies, and other relevant third parties.
  • Lead the identification of and engagement with Annexon’s publication and medical education vendor(s).
  • Maintain cutting edge knowledge of all regulations and best practices for scientific communication, publications, Medical Information and education.

Education, Experience, and Skills: 

Required: 

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD) required
  • Significant experience (minimum of 10 years) and leadership in Scientific Communications, Publication and/or Medical Affairs
  • Therapeutic area expertise in neurology, and/or ophthalmology preferred
  • Proven partner management skills to achieve results based on key performance indicators.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle, and commercialization process
  • Knowledge of GPP, ICMJE and all applicable regional, and international regulations and guidelines
  • Project management, and resource planning/management experience
  • Skilled at effectively communicating complex scientific/clinical concepts and data in written and oral forms.
  • Experienced at engagement and scientific exchange with scientists and clinicians.
  • Proven record of solving problems coupled with exhibiting good judgement regarding relevant issues

Salary Range: 290,000 - 320,000 USD

Location: Annexon Biosciences is located in Brisbane, California and preference is given to candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area.
