About the role

The Compliance Paralegal is responsible for supporting Rothera’s Compliance and Product teams on an on-demand contract basis to facilitate the launch of new event contract classes and swap products. In this role, you will play a mission-critical part in preparing, reviewing, and managing regulatory submissions for Rothera’s Designated Contract Market (DCM).

Compliance Paralegals at Rothera are detail-oriented, analytical, and possess a strong baseline understanding of derivatives markets and regulatory drafting. They operate with meticulous precision when preparing formal filings, executing public record redactions, and establishing confidentiality justifications for proprietary business logic and market specifications.

Product listing cycles move fast and demand high accuracy under tight regulatory timelines. In close partnership with Product and Compliance leaders, you will gather product specifications, draft legal documentation, and execute CFTC filings to ensure seamless product rollouts.

What you’ll do

  • Draft and review comprehensive Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Part 40 self-certification filings required prior to listing new classes of Swaps or event contracts on the Rothera DCM.
  • Draft formal, legally rigorous requests for Confidential Treatment of sensitive regulatory filings in strict accordance with CFTC Rule 145.9.
  • Create accurate public and FOIA-compliant redacted versions of Part 40 filings, ensuring the secure protection of proprietary trading logic, commercial terms, and trade secrets.
  • Thoroughly scrub document metadata and execute precise manual text redactions prior to public disclosure or regulatory submission.
  • Coordinate directly with Product and Compliance teams to gather necessary product rules, economic terms, and contract specifications required for submissions.
  • Maintain organized archives of all regulatory filings, FOIA requests, rulebook amendments, and agency correspondence.

What you’ll bring

  • Current law student OR an experienced paralegal with a proven track record in financial services regulation.
  • Basic understanding of CFTC regulations, the Dodd-Frank Act, and the operational framework of Designated Contract Markets (DCMs) or Swap Execution Facilities (SEFs).
  • Exceptional legal drafting, proofreading, and editing capabilities with disciplined attention to detail.
  • Technical precision in executing manual text redactions, metadata removal, and document security protocols.
  • Immediate availability and commitment to flexibly scale up to 40 hours per week based on the pipeline of new product listings.

Desired, but not required

  • Direct experience drafting CFTC Part 40.2 (Product Certification) or Part 40.6 (Rule Certification) filings.
  • Prior exposure to the asset class mechanics of Swaps, event contracts, or listed derivatives.
  • Experience navigating Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) exemptions and commercial confidentiality justifications.
