About the Role

We are looking for Product Designers who are problem solvers first.

Our users include policy makers, economists and senior leaders working with complex information, workflows and decisions. Your role is to understand how they work, identify the right problems to solve, and design products and services that make their work simpler and more effective. This is not just about designing screens.

You will work across: Problem Framing · Service Design · UX Design from discovery and validation through to build and continuous improvement.

You Are Able To

  • Work in the field and in the boardroom, from understanding how users work to engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Make sense of messy problems and turn ambiguity into clear problems and opportunities.
  • Zoom out and zoom in, understand the wider system, then get the important experience details right.
  • Understand users' workflows, information needs and decision-making processes.
  • Turn research and insights into better product and service experiences.
  • Design across digital touchpoints, processes, people and systems.
  • Simplify complex information and workflows without losing important context.
  • Make ideas tangible through journeys, flows, wireframes and prototypes.
  • Test ideas early, learn and iterate.
  • Work with Product Managers and Engineers to see solutions through from discovery to delivery.

What You'll Do

Discover & Define

  • Understand users, their goals, workflows, pain points and information needs.
  • Conduct appropriate user research.
  • Separate the real problem from assumptions and proposed solutions.
  • Synthesise research and evidence into clear insights and opportunities.
  • Frame problems so multidisciplinary teams have a shared understanding of what we are solving.

Validate & Improve

  • Turn assumptions into hypotheses and prototypes that can be tested.
  • Conduct concept and usability testing with users.
  • Iterate based on qualitative and quantitative evidence.
  • Stay involved during build to ensure the intended experience is delivered.
  • Use user feedback, product usage and outcomes to continuously improve the product.

Collaborate & Influence

  • Facilitate workshops and conversations that help teams make progress.
  • Make complex problems understandable through clear visualisation and storytelling.
  • Communicate design rationale and trade-offs without relying on design jargon.
  • Build strong relationships with policy teams, economists, Product Managers, Engineers and senior stakeholders.
  • Advocate for users while understanding policy, operational and technical constraints.

[What we are looking for]

Product Designer: Around 2 to 4 + years of relevant professional experience.

Senior Product Designer: Around 5+ years, with experience independently framing complex problems, leading design work and engaging senior stakeholders.

You should have:

  • Strong problem-framing and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong foundations in human-centred design.
  • Experience with user research and synthesis.
  • Service design skills, including journey mapping and understanding end-to-end experiences.
  • Strong UX fundamentals: user flows, information architecture, interaction design and prototyping.
  • Ability to simplify complex workflows and information.
  • Experience prototyping, testing and iterating with users.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Product Managers and Engineers.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and learn complex domains quickly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing for knowledge workers, analysts or professional users.
  • Information-heavy or data-heavy products.
  • Information or data visualisation.
  • Service and process redesign.
  • Product analytics and experimentation.
  • Design systems and UI/visual design.
  • AI or emerging technologies.
  • Government, public service or other complex environments.

You do not need to be a policy or economics expert. You need to be curious, ask good questions and be able to learn from people who are.

Our designers use problem framing, service design and UX to help teams understand the right problem, make better decisions and build better products.
