About the Role:

We are seeking a Software Developer to build, maintain, and manage our integration platforms, ensuring scalable, reliable, and secure data flows across systems. This role is crucial as integrations become central to our service delivery. You will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing workflows, managing connectors and APIs, and providing ongoing support for integration performance.

At its core, this role is about transforming how data flows at Syndio and building the future of all data ingestion across the company.

Why this job is exciting:

  • Build the front door to Syndio — Data Hub is where every customer starts and the foundation every analysis runs on, so you'll decide how they connect a system, map their fields, and see exactly what came through.
  • Keep it fast at scale — customer datasets run to hundreds of thousands of employees across dozens of sources, and holding refresh times as that grows is a standing engineering problem, not a one-time fix.
  • Integrate against HRIS, ATS, and payroll APIs, building the platform's native connections and handling the real-world mess of auth flows, pagination, rate limits, schema drift, and partial failures.
  • Make failures legible by turning opaque sync errors into clear, actionable feedback so customers and Customer Success can resolve issues without an engineer in the loop.
  • Improve the implementation platform, collaborating with Forward Deployed Engineering and Implementation to understand what customers need and grow the platform's capabilities to meet more of it out of the box.
  • Work across a real distributed system spanning a Go API, Temporal workflows, a Python transformation engine, and a customer-facing frontend, following problems wherever they lead instead of stopping at a service boundary.
  • Raise the standards by establishing the patterns, documentation, and error-handling conventions that let integrations scale past what any one person can hold in their head.

Basic Requirements:

  • 2+ years building and shipping production software, with solid backend fundamentals. Python and/or Go preferred.
  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining integrations against third-party APIs — REST/SOAP, webhooks, OAuth and API-key auth, pagination, rate limiting, and handling upstream schema changes.
  • Experience with data pipelines and orchestration: scheduling, retries, sequencing, and monitoring workflows across systems.
  • Solid SQL and the ability to reason about data models and transformations.
  • Familiarity with HRIS, ATS, CRM, or ERP systems and their data models.
  • Strong documentation habits and a bias toward making your work legible to others.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams — you'll work directly with Customer Success and Implementation.

Nice to have:

  • Frontend experience (TypeScript/React or equivalent) and interest in building the product surface customers use to connect their systems.
  • Experience with iPaaS tools (Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, Tray.io, Celigo) and a point of view on when to build versus buy an integration.
  • Workflow orchestration engines (Temporal, Airflow)
  • File-based ingestion at scale — SFTP, CSV, flat-file pipelines and the validation they demand.
  • Working with sensitive employee or compensation data and the security and privacy practices that requires.

About You:

  • You like building products people depend on, and you care about the experience of whoever's on the other end — not just whether the pipeline ran.
  • You've worked with sensitive data and treat security, privacy, and compliance as part of your job rather than someone else's.
  • You've seen customer onboarding up close and know the ways cross-system data flows go wrong in practice.
  • You're comfortable in unfamiliar territory — reading a third-party API's docs, tracing a bad record back through a pipeline, and working out what actually happened.
  • You want a say in where the platform goes over the long term, and you're eager to grow into that as you learn the domain.
  • You are a strong communicator, collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical teams across levels and functions.
  • You assume positive intent, are humble and eager, expect the best from yourself, value partnership over perfection, and provide grace and understanding in stressful situations
  • You value a remote work environment and know that it requires greater intentionality on your part to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • You are based in Calgary and legally authorized to work in Alberta without need for additional visa support now or in the future.
