Position Summary:
Millstone Weber is seeking a Senior Paving Engineer to manage and execute concrete paving activities in support of our transportation infrastructure operations, including highway & bridge, rail & mass transit, aviation, and other heavy civil construction projects. This position spans the full project lifecycle from estimating and planning through construction and closeout, with responsibility for batch plant management, concrete production, material allocations, and cost reporting. The role requires regular interaction with senior leadership to provide operational metrics and manage concrete costs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Concrete Paving Planning & Execution:
- Lead, draft, and develop concrete paving plans and maintain throughout project lifecycle
- Lead, draft, and distribute weekly concrete paving schedules
- Review and process Purchase Orders for permanent paving materials
- Lead and facilitate pre-activity meetings for concrete paving operations
- Provide technical guidance to paving crews for plan and specification review and interpretation
Batch Plant & Production Management:
- Manage batch plant product inventory, production, and costs
- Perform batch plant allocations/cost transferring to individual projects for material (concrete) produced for all batch plants, and present to leaders companywide
- Track concrete production for all batch plants; match production to quantities for accuracy
- Track and analyze production quantities and material waste for daily activities
Cost Management & Reporting:
- Develop and manage cost reports for Concrete Operations and present to senior leadership
- Determine scorecard metrics and present to Senior Leadership
- Review and approve up to 50 invoices of over $100,000 weekly
Project Coordination & Support:
- Advise Estimating Department on constructability and participate in concrete paving bid reviews
- Coordinate and advise with Superintendents and Foremen on day-to-day tasks including material procurement, daily project scheduling, and survey/layout
- Coordinate with other MW Operations Managers, as needed
- Review and track timecards of Paving Foremen and Superintendents
Quality & Safety:
- Participate in safety support and planning work with Health & Safety Personnel, including participating in weekly Toolbox Talks and in safety inspections/walkthroughs
- Perform quality assurance tracking, receiving, and reporting Travel: Travel required to project sites within US approximately 20% of the year (average of 4 days per month)
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction or concrete paving operations, including experience with concrete materials, production, and construction plans and specifications
Alternative Qualification:
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field plus 3 years of experience in heavy civil construction or concrete paving operations, including experience with concrete materials, production, and construction plans and specifications
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, plans, and specifications
- Demonstrated experience with industry-standard scheduling and construction management software, such as MS Project, Primavera, ProCore, HCSS HeavyJob or Heavy Bid, or AutoCAD
