About Knit Health

Knit Health is building a novel clinical foundation model to improve the way healthcare is delivered. We combine expertise in AI with deep clinical knowledge to develop safe, trustworthy systems that improve care, expand access, and reduce waste. Knit is led by a founding team from the University of California Berkeley who have developed a novel AI architecture which learns to reason like physicians. We’re now closing the loop and using our novel foundation model, together with frontier clinical LLMs, to build a next generation clinical intelligence platform for providers. We are venture backed and have partnered with multiple US-based health systems and data providers.

Why this role

The Chief of Staff will work directly with the CEO and senior leadership on some of Knit Health’s most important and least structured problems. This is a role for someone who combines exceptional analytical ability with initiative, curiosity, judgment, and a builder’s mindset. You won’t just help define what should happen; you’ll roll up your sleeves, create momentum, and help turn ideas into something the company can act on.

You’ll operate across strategy, fundraising, product, science, operations, and partnerships. At times, that means helping the CEO sharpen an emerging idea, pressure-testing what it implies, or collaborating on what the company should do next. At others, it means turning that thinking into a concrete plan, building the analysis or materials required to support a decision, bringing the right people together, and making sure the work actually gets done.

A great Chief of Staff creates structure without constraining creativity. You listen for the underlying idea, challenge assumptions, recognize second-order implications, and turn free-flowing thinking into clear decisions and executable actions. You will frequently encounter important problems before there is a defined project, owner, or solution, and you’ll be expected to develop a point of view, propose a path forward, and start moving the work ahead without waiting to be asked.

This is an early-stage company, and the role requires comfort with both high-level strategic thinking and hands-on execution. You may move from a sophisticated conversation about company strategy, fundraising, or investor positioning to an operational problem that simply needs someone capable to take ownership of it.

You’ll work closely with an accomplished, highly collaborative leadership team spanning healthcare, AI, research, product, and business. The expectation is that you can engage with them as a thoughtful partner while also helping the organization move faster.

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years of exceptional performance in a highly analytical, high-expectation environment such as top-tier management consulting, venture capital or investing, strategy and operations at a high-growth company, or a substantive Chief of Staff role.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking. You can take ambiguous, complex problems, break them down, develop a point of view, identify broader implications, and drive toward a clear recommendation or decision.
  • High intellectual curiosity and strong business judgment. You engage deeply with new ideas, ask incisive questions, challenge assumptions constructively, and are comfortable forming an independent perspective.
  • A builder/operator mindset and comfort with the pace of an early-stage startup. You can move quickly from strategy to execution, work directly with data, and build or lead the first version of dashboards, internal tools, or other lightweight systems. You do not need to be an engineer, but you should be tech-forward and effective working alongside technical teammates.
  • A high degree of initiative and ownership. You identify what needs to happen, create structure where little exists, develop a proposal, and move work forward without waiting for detailed direction.
  • Exceptional communication skills. You can simplify complex ideas, create clear executive-level materials, and communicate effectively with people across different disciplines and levels of seniority.
  • Strong interpersonal instincts and judgment. You can build trust quickly, work effectively with senior leaders, handle sensitive information with discretion, and collaborate across the company.

Valuable but not required

  • Experience in health technology, AI, or another technically complex environment.
  • Experience working closely with founders or senior executives, particularly in an early-stage or high-growth company.
  • A background in economics, finance, or another quantitatively rigorous discipline; an MBA or other advanced degree is also welcome.
  • Experience in venture capital, investing, finance, fundraising, or other investor-facing strategic work.

How you’ll work

You’ll move between very different kinds of work, often in the same day. You might help the CEO work through an emerging company or fundraising question, think through how an investor or customer might interpret a decision, and then step into a cross-functional issue that needs someone to create momentum.

You’ll also build. That could mean leading the first MVP of a dashboard or internal tool, gathering and curating the underlying business data, or partnering with technical teammates to turn an idea into something the company can actually use. You’re comfortable getting into the details and creating something useful rather than stopping at the recommendation.

This is a high-trust role. You’ll be expected to engage deeply with unfinished ideas, bring structure without adding unnecessary complexity, exercise strong judgment, and know when it is time to keep exploring versus when it is time to build, test, and move.
