Fire Alarm Service & Maintenance Engineer

Field Based - Horsham / Crawley & Local Catchment | Circa £35,000 + Benefits and Additional Earning Potential

Company Overview:

Firetecnics is one of London's most trusted, LPCB-certified fire safety companies, with one of the best reputations in the industry built up over more than 35 years. We are the go-to fire safety partner for residential and commercial property professionals, delivering fast, reliable solutions that ensure full compliance and complete peace of mind.

As part of the Helix International Group, Firetecnics combines specialist fire-safety expertise with the capability and backing of a wider risk, compliance and technology group.

We provide fire detection, installation, service, maintenance and wider compliance solutions, combining technical expertise with responsive, personalised customer service.

Role Overview:

Firetecnics is strengthening its regional Service & Maintenance capability and is looking for Fire Alarm Service & Maintenance Engineers based in and around Horsham / Crawley. The role is designed around stronger local coverage, with engineers working predominantly within defined regional customer clusters rather than routinely travelling across the whole South East.

Your core focus will be planned fire alarm servicing and maintenance, reactive fault-finding, diagnostics and remedial works. We are looking for engineers with credible hands-on fire alarm experience, a methodical approach to faults and the ambition to continue developing technically.

We also want to broaden our engineering capability across AOV systems and emergency lighting. Previous experience is advantageous but not essential where you have the right fire alarm foundations and willingness to learn; training and support will be provided where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service and maintain fire detection and alarm systems in accordance with BS 5839-1:2025, relevant standards and Firetecnics procedures, including planned testing and inspections.
  • Attend reactive fault calls, diagnose system issues methodically and complete first-time fixes wherever reasonably possible.
  • Use panel information, event histories, downloads, laptops and relevant software tools to support fault diagnosis and system interrogation.
  • Identify defects and remedial requirements, completing appropriate small works, upgrades or repairs where required and within competence.
  • Produce accurate engineer reports and compliance documentation, clearly communicating findings and recommended actions.
  • Represent Firetecnics professionally with customers, residents, site teams and internal colleagues.
  • Develop capability across AOV systems and emergency lighting, completing additional training and competency sign-off where required.
  • Maintain appropriate van stock, tools and equipment, work safely and participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota when required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Hands-on fire alarm service and maintenance experience, with a sound understanding of planned servicing and fault diagnosis.
  • Experience working with conventional and analogue addressable fire alarm systems.
  • A logical, methodical approach to fault-finding and a willingness to develop greater technical independence.
  • Ability to work responsibly on customer sites and take ownership of service activity within your level of competence.
  • Comfort using laptops, diagnostic tools and manufacturer software, or the technical aptitude to develop this capability.
  • Good understanding of BS 5839-1 and BS5839-6:2019+A1:2020, strong reporting and customer communication skills, and sound Health & Safety judgement.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience:

  • FIA training or an equivalent fire alarm qualification.
  • Experience across manufacturers such as Advanced, Kentec, C-TEC, Ziton, Gent, Protec, Notifier, Morley or similar.
  • Exposure to open and managed or closed-protocol systems, remedials, small works or commissioning.
  • Experience with AOV systems and/or emergency lighting; where this is not already part of your skill set, training can be provided.

Why Join Us

This regional recruitment campaign is designed to build engineering capability closer to the customers and communities we support. The intention is for you to work predominantly within Horsham / Crawley, reducing unnecessary long-distance travel and building greater familiarity with the sites and systems in your area. Occasional wider regional travel may still be required.

The starting salary is circa £35,000, depending on experience and capability. We are also interested in stronger, more experienced engineers where their technical capability fits the requirement, with the overall proposition considered accordingly.

The package includes a company vehicle and fuel card, overtime and out-of-hours call-out payments, technical and manufacturer training and development across fire alarms, AOV and emergency lighting.

Wider benefits include private healthcare, a 4% matched pension, 4x salary life cover, 23 days holiday with the option to purchase more and Perkpal rewards and discounts.

For the right individual, this is an opportunity to build greater technical breadth and independence within an established fire-safety business, while working closer to home and contributing to a growing regional Service & Maintenance operation.
