1. 1

   1–3 months

   Get hired as a trainee

   The large dialysis operators train from scratch and pay you while you learn — you rarely pay for this one.

2. 2

   3–6 months

   Complete the employer training program

   Machine setup, cannulation, and how to spot a patient going bad mid-treatment.

   Pass a national certification

   Most states require BONENT, NNCC or CCHT certification within 18 months of hire.
